Research award for EPP member

Published: March 7, 2024

A research project co-created by an EPP network member has won an award. The research paper looked at the role of education in the rehabilitation of offenders in the Kurdistan region.

The research was conducted by EPP member Adnan Shwan, with fellow researcher Soran Ghazi.

The paper was titled: The Role of Education in the Rehabilitation of Offenders: A Study on the Educational Situation in Prisoners in the Kurdistan Region.

The paper will soon be published in the Lebanese French University’s Qalay Zanst Journal.

The project is a scientific collaboration with backing from The Lebanese French University and the Barzani Charity Foundation.

The aim of this project is to focus on original scientific research, which can serve different sectors in the Kurdistan region.

Adnan Said: “It was a great feeling to receive the first grant for the Unique Research project, and of course this will be a good incentive for us to obtain research grants at the international level.

“It is worth noting that, according to the recommendations that we presented in our paper to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), education not only reduces crime, rather, becomes a factor in reducing violent and extremist ideas”.

The joint project was announced on September 4, 2023, and within weeks, dozens of papers had been submitted. After evaluating all the papers, the first, second and third papers were awarded.
